Duncraig was developed from the mid-1970s as part of the rapid expansion of Perth's northern suburbs driven by the Mitchell Freeway extension. The land was previously part of the coastal plain bushland and pine plantations that characterised the Wanneroo corridor. The suburb was named after Duncraig Station, a pastoral property in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. By the late 1980s, Duncraig was largely built out and had established itself as one of the most popular family suburbs in the northern corridor, with Duncraig Senior High School opening in 1983.
